The ReCIPE team in Bolivia (Oxfam in Bolivia, Asosiacion Aguayo, and Fundación InternetBolivia.org) took part in the international AbreLatam event, contributing data and insights across various panels and engaging in dialogue with colleagues from @Gentic, Mujer Dispara – Audiovisual Feminista, and Fundación CONSTRUIR. 

 

Theatre Production “Between Networks and Shadows”:

Through the RECIPE project in coordination with the Vice Ministry of Equal Opportunities, support was provided for the staging of the play Between Networks and Shadows, presented by Asociación Aguayo.

The play explored how digital gender-based violence intersects with other forms of violence and social inequality, particularly in urban and peri-urban areas of Bolivia. The actresses come from a rural municipality in Bolivia.

Panel on Digital Threats to Human Rights Defenders:

This panel examined the regional landscape of digital violence against journalists and activists in Bolivia and Argentina. It revealed how digital environments are increasingly used as tools to silence, discipline, and persecute activists—especially women and LGBTQ+ defenders. The session became a space for collective resistance and strategy-building to confront these threats.

Panel on Monitoring or Researching Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV):

This session aimed to highlight and analyse the challenges of TFGBV, particularly during election periods. It also explored tools for documenting violence using approaches grounded in intersectionality, care, and non-revictimisation. The panel discussed the limitations and barriers faced by civil society in monitoring this type of violence on digital platforms.

Networking event, 22 July:

As part of the official AbreLatam activities, a networking event was held on 22 July with civil society organisations from across Latin America, partner organisations, and allied collectives in Bolivia to exchange experiences. Approximately 70 people registered for the event.
