The Cooperation Committee for Cambodia, Cambodia
CCC works in partnership with its members on issues of good governance. It has 183 non-governmental organisations as members. These organisations work in diverse areas in Cambodia.
CCC promotes civic space and aims to make an environment where civil society organisations (CSOs) can work effectively in Cambodia. It works with national networks and think tanks - a body of experts providing advice on specific political or economic problems. Its work focuses on digital advocacy and policy reforms that include the government, CSOs, academics and the private sector.
Through their partnership with Oxfam under the ReCIPE project, CCC progress their work in different areas such as:
- Continuing to raise awareness amongst their partners on digital rights. These are in the areas of digital security, data protection and privacy, digital civic participation, as well as access and use of digital tools.
- Working with member organisations to deliver training and workshops.
- Analysing laws relating to online crime to promote freedom of expression online.
- Participating in policy discussions on digital rights.
- Monitoring and responding to laws and policies developed that relate to the online space.
This project is important in Cambodia, as there is a lack of digital and online skills. Over 67% of the total population have access to the internet, but around 30% of the population have basic digital skills, according to the Cambodia Digital Government Policy 2022-2035.
The COVID-19 pandemic increased the capacity of the government in the digital space. Online communication has become the norm. However, there are people who can’t access the internet, so there is a risk they may be left behind.
CCC aims to enable access to online platforms, support organisations to advocate for digital policies that empower people, and promote links between organisations.
