The ReCIPE project was represented at FIFAFrica25 by colleagues from Mzalendo Trust (Kenya), Somalia Non-State Actors (SONSA) and Oxfam. The forum brought together policymakers, civil society, and digital rights advocates to discuss emerging issues in internet governance, data protection, and civic freedoms across Africa.

Oxfam and Access Now co-organised a session titled Data Protection and Cybersecurity in Africa: Multi-country Insights on Key Issues and Opportunities for Strengthening Human Rights Protections. A recording of this session is available on YouTube here.

The panel was facilitated by Bill Marwa (Oxfam in Africa) and featured panellists: Naro Omo-Osagie (Access Now, Nigeria); ReCIPE colleagues Grace Naiserian (Mzalendo Trust, Kenya), Ahmed Hussein Iman (SONSA, Somalia), and Haythem Ben Zid (Oxfam, Tunisia). Participants discussed how fragmented regulatory environments and weak implementation mechanisms continue to expose African citizens—especially journalists, activists, and other vulnerable groups—to digital threats, surveillance, and privacy violations.
